Buying a Motorhome by Type
Motorhomes are one of the two main RV types. Unlike towable RVs, motorhomes have their own drivetrains and can be driven from place to place under their own power. Motorhomes are further divided into classes based on the type of vehicle chassis on which they are built. If you’re interested in purchasing a motorhome and want to know more about the different motorhome classes, check out this guide from Casa Grande RV Sales.
Class A Motorhomes
Class A motorhomes are built around bus chassis. This means that Class A motorhomes are bigger than Class B or C motorhomes in most cases. A typical Class A motorhome will be between 30’ and 45’ in length and have its driving cab integrated into the rest of the motorhome’s interior. They also sport panoramic windshields and a lot of interior space. Higher-end Class A models will have multiple rooms, residential-style kitchens, and multiple entertainment centers. Class A motorhomes tend to be expensive due to their size and variety of features.
Class B Motorhomes
Class B motorhomes are built off of van chassis, making them the smallest and most compact motorhomes on the market. Your typical Class B motorhome will only have enough sleeping space for two or three people, though they do have room for features like small wet baths, kitchenettes, and dinettes. While not as roomy as other motorhome types, Class B motorhomes tend to be more affordable. They’re also much closer to normal commuter vehicles in size, which means they are easier to operate.
Class C Motorhomes
Class C motorhomes are built on truck chassis. The largest Class C motorhome models, sometimes called Super Cs, are slightly larger than a small Class A motorhome, though Class C motorhomes are usually between Class A and B models in terms of size. Your typical class C motorhome will have a driving cab separated from the rest of the vehicle with an overhang above it. This alcove is usually used as storage or sleeping space.
